The Rs 200-crore weddings hosted by South Africa’s controversial Gupta family in Auli came to an end after five days of grand celebrations on Saturday.
The controversial Gupta family is based in South Africa and is known from its close ties with the contry’s former president Jacob Zuma. Zuma resigned as the President of South Africa on February 15 over corruption scandals.
two grand wedding stages and a glasshouse with decorative designs from Switzerland had been set up in the midst of the snow-crested mountains. This whole occasion had left the Municipal Corporation of Uttrakhand with with a challenging task of cleaning up the mountain of garbage.
The weddings were of Suryakant and Shashank Gupta, who are the sons of Ajay Gupta and Atul Gupta respectively.
Suryakant married Kritika Singhal, daughter of Delhi-based diamond merchant Suresh Singhal. while Shashank tied the knot with the daughter of a Dubai-based businessman on Saturday.
The weddings saw exhibitions by bollywood singers such as Kailash Kher, Badshah, Javed Ali, Aastha Gill and Shruti Pathak, alongside actors Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra.
The stress for local people also is the plastic which their domesticated animals could consume.
“My cows graze in the area… they will eat that plastic now like city cows,” a local who lives in a village a few kilometres from the wedding venue, told The Indian Express.
A penalty of Rs 2.5 lakh has been slapped on Gupta Brothers for scattering garbage , an official told India Today.
“We have imposed a fine of Rs 2.5 lakh on the Gupta brothers,” SP Nautiyal, Executive Officer of the Joshimath municipality, said.
While Rs 1 lakh fine is for defecating in the open, Rs 1.5 lakh penalty is for scattering garbage.
A copy of the challan has also been sent to the event management company which made arrangements for the weddings, he added.
